The Daewoo Leganza vehicle is a mid-size sedan constructed by the former Daewoo Motors in South Korea between 1997 and 2002. Internally during growth this model car was known as V100, under which it and its platform, which is exclusive to this model, are also known. Daewoo has excused that the name Leganza developed from the grouping of two Italian words - elegant and froze (power). Apparently though, after looking at the car and driving it, this was somewhat over affirmed. The Leganza vehicle was a part of Daewoo's attempt to develop a lineup of vehicles to restore the previous General Motors-licensed models. Similar to the Leganza are the T100 Daewoo Lanos car and J100 Daewoo Nubira vehicle. This model is actually not a Daewoo at the core given that the parts have been supplied from a plethora of places. This concerned, among others, ZF with regard to transmissions and Holden regarding the engines.
The Leganza vehicle was intended by Italian Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign. It is supposed that this design was inspired by Giugiaro's 1990 Jaguar Kensington perception car. In the case of the Leganza car, however, Giugiaro had to arrangement with a shorter vehicle with front wheel drive rather than back wheel drive, which, combined with Daewoo's styling cues like the great chrome grille, resulted in a very strange appearance. Unlike the Matiz or Nubira, the Leganza was not yielded a mid-life facelift. Rather than that, Daewoo improved the wheelbase of the Leganza platform by 30 mm to build up a new model, called the Daewoo Magnus. This subsequent model of vehicle was established in 2000. Both models were sold side by side in Korea, but the Magnus was not launched globally until Leganza's predictable demise in 2002. The North American market saw the Suzuki Verona rapidly replace the Leganza.
