 FDOT has enhanced and improved its Florida 511system by making it easier for the caller to retrieve information on road and travel conditions, incidents, and construction on state highways.

 Travelers have the option of accessing road and travel conditions using the Web at www.fl511.com or by dialing 511 on their cellular phones or their land lines.

 Though you can call 511 from any phone, you will not be able to access your My Florida 511 routes from a phone not listed on your account.

Weather conditions statewide, Road construction and planned road closures on interstates, U.S. routes, and state routes in Florida ,Traffic incidents, Transportation, Airports, Tourism, AMBER Alerts

 Programs introduced by FDOT to improve transportation

Adopt a Highway

In Adopt-a-highway program volunteers accept for two years contract through which they agree to clear litter from highways at regular intervals. Many groups of people can participate in this program. In this programs volunteers agree to:
  • Adopt" a two-mile section of a State Highway
  • Dedicate two years to the program
  • Follow specified DOT safety regulations
  • Remove litter a minimum of four times each year

Memorial Markers

Memorial Marker FDOT has launched the Memorial Marker Program to memorialize those who have died as a result of a vehicle related accident on the State Highway. In an attempt to boost public consciousness of highway safety, it is the policy of the Department to allow memorial markers to be placed within the state road right of way.

Work Zone Safety Program

The key element of this campaign is to tell motorists that they are more likely to be killed or injured in work zone accidents than employees or contract workers. Our role in a work zone:

  • We have to slow down when we see an orange cone.

  • Tailgating should not be done in the work zones.

  • Reading all the signs assist in safely directing motorists through the work zone.

  • While driving try to avoid getting distracted.

Safe Routes to School program

SRTS Program assists schools and communities in the planning, Development, Implementation of projects and activities which will improve safety, fuel consumption and air pollution in the surrounding area of schools while promoting a healthy lifestyle for children and their parents.

2. Shift workers and people with long work hours.
3. Long travel drivers.
4. People suffering from undiagnosed or untreated sleep disorder.
5. Business travelers.

Pedestrian Laws

1. No people upon roller skates, coaster, toy vehicle, or similar device are allowed on the roadway except while crossing a street on a crosswalk.

2. No pedestrian should hold back suddenly, run into the path or a vehicle which is so close that it is impossible for the driver to yield.

3. When sidewalks are provided no pedestrian is allowed to walk on the portion of a vehicular traffic roadway.

4. When sidewalks are not provided, walk on the left side of the roadway, facing traffic which may approach from the opposite direction.

5. People are not allowed to stand on or in close to a street or highway for the purpose of watching or guarding of any vehicle while parked or about to be parked on a street or highway.

6. People who don’t cross roadways on a marked or unmarked intersection crosswalk or a marked mid-block crosswalk should give way to all the vehicles on the roadway.

7. Pedestrians may not cross an intersection diagonally except where and when crossing is sanctioned by official traffic control devices.

Bicycle safety

1. A bicycle must be set a lamp on the front with a white light visible from 500 feet to the front and a red reflector and also a lamp on the rear with a red light visible from 600 feet to the rear.

2. Any cyclists under 16 years of age are not allowed to ride a bicycle or any attachment of a bicycle without a helmet.

3. Bicyclists should have at least one hand on the handlebars while driving.

4. When a vehicle is stopped to give way to the pedestrian to cross the roadway, the vehicle at the rear should not overtake the stopped vehicle.

5. Bicyclists should give an audible signal before overtaking and passing a pedestrian.
