Auto transport, public transportation, public transit or mass transit comprises all transport systems in that the passengers do not go in their own vehicles. While it is generally taken to comprise rail and bus services, wider definitions would include planned airline services, ferries, taxicab services etc. — any system, which transports goods and services of the universal public is called auto transport. A further restriction, which is sometimes practical, is that it need to take place in shared vehicles, which would exclude taxis that are not shared-ride taxis.
