What to do if something goes wrong with my auto transport?

Most of the time, your move will go without a hitch. The best thing you can do to avoid problems is to do your research and choose a broker like All America that has been in business for decades with great reviews. Below are some other things to look out for:

Bait & Switch price quotes:  To avoid bait-and-switches in the beginning, make sure to get multiple quotes from reputable auto transport companies. I would also make sure to check online reviews about the auto transport companies you are considering. Ask for references to see if their previous customers would recommend them. 

Damage: Prior to shipping you should reach out to see if your car insurance company covers car shipping or if there is some additional insurance they might recommend. If you find damage when you are doing the inspection at delivery, take a photo of the damage. Document the damage on the Bill of Lading with the driver. Make sure to let your broker know, and file a claim with the trucking company’s insurance as soon as possible.

Late pickup or deliveries happen: When you place your order, you will receive an estimated pick-up and delivery date window.  These are estimates and not guaranteed dates because unexpected circumstances can occur and delay the pickup delivery. Things like traffic, weather and other customers can cause delays, but won’t significantly affect your shipment. Make sure you are prepared for this possibility so that you have a backup plan if necessary.

Theft of personal items:  Do not pack valuables inside your car. Most trucking companies allow you to put up to 100lbs of luggage inside your trunk. However, they are not liable for items you leave in your vehicle. It’s okay to put some stuff in your trunk, just understand that it shouldn’t be anything you can’t live without :)

Don’t forget! Get everything in writing – However reliable an Auto Transport company seems, don’t rely on verbal agreements. Make sure you get everything in writing. So, if there is a problem it’s not just your word against theirs.
