What happens if your car is damaged during shipment?

Shipping your car can be stressful enough, without having to worry about dealing with damages. While it is rare, cars are sometimes damaged during shipment. Most of the time, damages from car shipping are minor (think stones or hail dinging your roof), but sometimes they are more major. However, all of our car carriers are fully insured, so you can rest easy knowing that all damage will be covered by the trucker and not you. We ill help you navigate the claims process if you are one of the unlucky few.

If you find damage on your car at delivery:

  1. Take a photo of the damage ASAP.

  2. Document the damage on the Bill of Lading and have the driver sign the Inspection Bill of Lading before you drive your vehicle away.

  3. Act fast in filing a claim because you will only have 15 days after your vehicle has been delivered to file a damage claim. Contact the auto transport company’s main office to explain the situation. Depending on the level of damage, they will either pay for it themselves or send the claim to their insurance company.

  4. Take your car to a mechanic or body shop to get an estimate for repairing the damages. Send the photos and repair estimate to the auto transport company because they will need both to submit to their insurance company.
