When is the best time of year to ship my car (if I have a choice)?

The automobile transport market has low and high seasons, and it pays to know.

The slowest month of the year in the car shipping industry is February. The snowbirds have already made it South. The college kids are at back in school and most companies don’t relocate employees in the middle of a school year. The downside it the trucks don’t want to drive a partially empty truck so it takes them longer to find cars to fill their loads. Cars might move slower, but prices are lower.

The summer season sees more people shipping their vehicles than any other. An inflow of customers during the summer leads to higher prices because auto transport trucks can pick and choose loads that are traveling along popular routes. The higher the asking price, the quicker a vehicle tends to be picked up.

The fall months are good times to ship your car because the number of car transport shipments are down from the summer, which means faster service and slightly lower car shipping rates. However, the best time to ship your car is when the snowbirds are going in the opposite direction. It’s called the back-haul because the trucks don’t want to come back empty. So heading South in the Spring and heading North in the Fall will get you the best rates and quick service.
